Featured Zibbeter - Monkmama54

This week we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Herzog who has two shops on Zibbet: Monkmama54 and Frugally Found for You.

At Monkmama54 you will find the loveliest hand painted treasures, many of which are vintage items recycled into new with her wonderful style of painting.

Glassware, wooden signs, cards and Christmas items are just a few of the things you’ll want to buy.

Please enjoy the interview, leave Nancy a comment, and then use the Share Tools so others can read it, too. Please spread the Zibbet Love!

I live in central New York & have been a New Yorker all my life. I am married to my love of 37 years, Keith. We have two grown sons, a daughter-in-law to be & three grand children.

I love to bake & cook. I have two basset hounds that I walk with everyday if weather permits. I also do gardening, we have quite a big garden (maybe too big now). I love to go to garage, estate & rummage sales with my hubby & find goodies! My family, of course is the most important. My grandchildren are just wonderful!

I just love the idea of making something prettier than it was when it started out. I have so many ideas that I don’t get to ,that it keeps me inspired & I love doing it! There’s always something new to paint or make in one way or another!

I have always looked up to my Mom & Dad, who are both deceased now. They worked very hard for what they had & were honest & very loving parents! They were always there for us!

Animals, esp. dogs. I am very passionate about people adopting dogs from shelters & breed rescues. That is where both of our bassets came from(a basset rescue) & I feel there are so many dogs that need good loving homes that it’s the best route! Animal abuse is an awful crisis in this country!

I love the community, all the loving & caring people who are here! Everyone is helpful & supportive, it’s so nice to be a part of that! I know you have all been helpful & supportive to me. I feel you are part of my family & that’s a great feeling! The staff are always on top of any problems also & quick to help you!

O’h my gosh, I’m not sure. That is a hard question as I think it’s great as it is! I think they are thinking of new features faster than I can think of anything!

I promote on twitter, facebook & stumble upon & I also do some craft shows. I include my business cards with all purchases. I always carry my cards with me in case I need one to hand out!

Probably to promote as much as possible, list as much as they can in their shop & be a part of the community!

a shop owner. It will probably not happen, but it would be fun & a lot of work! I have wanted a shop for as long as I can remember. Thanks so much for having me as the featured Zibbeter, I appreciate it very much!

Zibbet Q&A: I can’t login to my shop with my email address. Help!

When you open a Zibbet account, you’re asked to select a Username. This Username serves several purposes on Zibbet, including logging in to your account. While Zibbet’s Community Hub requires that you log in using an email address, you must use your Username to log in to your Zibbet account. It’s a good idea to write down the Username and password that you select for your Zibbet account so that you can log in easily until you’ve committed this information to memory.

Usernames are also used to create the URL for your shop. The pattern for Zibbet shop URLs is www.zibbet.com/[Username]. For example, if your Username is ‘MyShop’ your shop’s URL will be www.zibbet.com/MyShop. Please note that your Username cannot be changed or edited so please be careful when selecting it. It’s advisable to select a Username that is the name of your business. This makes it easy for people to remember and thus to find you. Because you may have multiple email addresses, it’s also a good idea to include the address associated with your Zibbet account in your notes about your Username.

Logging in to your shop and Community accounts are two separate procedures requiring different login information. Remember, logging in to your shop requires your shop Username. Logging in to your Community Hub account requires an email address.

When you contact Zibbet Support, we can most easily locate your shop information with your email address or your Username. For this reason, please contact us via the email address recorded for your account whenever possible and include your Username. When contacting Zibbet Support about a problem with your Community account, please specify that in your message to us. Knowing which account you’re referring to helps us answer your concern quickly and efficiently.

Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!

Zibbet Q&A: What can I sell on Zibbet?

Please refer to our Terms of Use for a thorough explanation of what can and can’t be sold on Zibbet. Items can be listed in one of four main categories:

Handmade is for items that are made by you. This is our largest category and contains a wide variety of items.

Fine Art is also for items made by you and usually includes paintings, photographs, sculptures etc.

Vintage is for items that are at least 20 years old and unaltered except for minor repairs and cleaning. ‘Upcycled’ items made from Vintage items should be listed as Handmade.

Supplies is for craft supplies-items that can be used to make other items that can be sold on Zibbet.

The words ‘handmade’ and ‘vintage’ can only be used to describe items that can be listed in those categories respectively. Some items can be listed in more than one category based on what they are. However, you must choose one main category for each item.

Services are in general not permissible to be sold on Zibbet. The only services that are acceptable are those that directly help a seller with their Zibbet shop (i.e. shop design, writing item descriptions, proofreading, optimizing listings for search engines etc) and also design related services, since a creative product is produced at the end of it.

Stones and such, which can be made into jewelry and other items that are eligible to be sold on Zibbet can be sold through the Supplies category. However, they can’t be sold as spells or any thing that can be construed as a service. They also cannot be sold as supplies used for rituals of any kind. Zibbet’s definition of “supplies” is items that can be used to make other items that can be sold on Zibbet.

Original printed copies of craft and vintage books can be sold on Zibbet. However, scanning and/or photocopying copyrighted material and offering it for sale violates copyright laws and isn’t acceptable. For more information on copyright, please visit http://www.copyright.gov/ and/or consult an intellectual property expert.

Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!

Zibbet Q&A: I’m new to Zibbet. How do I list an item for sale?

Learning your way around a new venue always involves a bit of a learning curve, especially if you’re brand new to online selling. At Zibbet, we’ve developed a listing procedure that is quick and easy with only two pages to fill in–one for product details and the other for uploading product images.

To list an item, log in to your shop and click the My Zibbet link in the upper right corner of the page. On the right side of your My Zibbet page, click the List A New Item link in the Listing section. You’ll be presented with a page where you’ll fill in the details about the item. When you’ve completed this page, click the Item Images button at the bottom of the page.

On the Images page you’ll be able to upload images of the item you are listing as well as select up to four colors that best fit the item. You can also rearrange the order that the items will appear in the final listing. After you’ve completed uploading your images, click the Continue button at the bottom of the page.

You’ll now see a draft of what your listing will look like in your shop. You can click the Edit Details and Edit Images links if you want to make changes. When you are happy with your listing, simply click the List item link to finalize the listing process.

Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!

Case Study: Zibbet scales a 3-person team with customer-powered ...

September 29, 2011 in Case Studies - by Evan Hamilton

zibbetEarlier this month we covered how LazyMeter scaled with their huge launch. But how do you scale customer support as your popularity (and cash flow) build slowly? Zibbet does it by paying a passionate community member to contribute.

Zibbet is an online marketplace for handmade sellers. Launched in 2009, they have $60,000 in angel capital...and three employees total. Their gradual success has been a double-edged sword: with over 4,700 active users, they can no longer do support themselves. What started as a small amount of work grew to two distracting, distributed hours a day that took away from development. Productivity wasn’t happening, but they weren’t at the point where they could hire a full-timer.

laptop, tea, glasses, and yarnSolution? Find someone qualified and inexpensive, and build a simple framework to ensure quality. We don’t approve of unloading support on your community, but Zibbet has found a unique way to tap their community for help: they’ve hired one of their passionate community members - a 54-year-old lady in Florida named Vicki - who gets paid per point she gets on the UserVoice Leaderboard.

“The points allow us to ensure quality and track performance,” says CEO and founder Jonathan Peacock. ”You get more points for fast replies and kudos, so Vicki is rewarded for providing good, timely customer service, which is one of the things we pride ourselves on at Zibbet.”

Is it worth the money? “Absolutely. It’s saving us a day’s work of development time a week. She knows the system better than us because she uses it to sell her own goods. She can answer issues more efficiently, which allows us to work on the actual product.” Additionally, they have her put that hands-on experience to use writing up documentation.

Vicki isn’t an island, though - all complex tickets go to the founders, so they can dig in and she doesn’t have to get stressed out by her part-time occupation. It’s a symbiotic relationship that is helping Zibbet succeed, despite their small team and big community.

13. Yahoo Groups: Use this method to Spread the Zibbet Love

Nicole,

Yes Craigslist is a good idea too. But I was thinking a local Yahoo group or any local group of any kind.

Something a bit more personal and close to home.

A Mailing list of a club: 4-H, Scouts, Dog fanciers, any groups.

a physical flyer at someone's church

Flyer at the VFW

American Legion

Elks Club

Lions Club

(you get the idea)

Most of those places also have email lists now, sometimes just done with a regular email Ask the creator of the email if they could put a small note about Zibbet.

Here's an example:

Say you belong to a email list about dogs.

And say you do not sell anything with dogs on it.

Search dogs on Zibbet and run a free promo featuring a few dog items from Zibbet.

Do you belong to a yacht club? Do the same thing: feature some natical products.

3. How are sales?

MainMy PageMembersForumGroupsChatPhotosOrtist All Discussions My Discussions Add flights of fantasy How are sales? Posted by flights of fantasy on October 8, 2011 at 9:11am in Chit-Chat View Discussions

Here in the UK online sales seem to have been pretty thin on the ground on Folksy - and for me non existent on Dawanda and Zibbet. So I wondered is it just in the UK things are quiet or is it slow on your side of the ocean too?

I did a charity event yesterday which was a real disappointment - this time last year - at the same event - I took several hundred pounds, this year I struggled to tot up my table money and fuel, with nothing much left for materials/time etc etc.

It has pretty much made me decide there are few fairs worth going out for unless they are true craft fairs where buyers come becasue they love handmade items. I'll give it a year on the internet, otherwise may just have to litter the house with the mountains of stuff I make! At least when the Christmas season is over and life calms down I can finally get my wedding designs listed for the new business and hope that is a bit more in demand.

In the meantime, I shall be listing again in the coming week, time allowing, now that my crashed computer has been rebuilt.

Diane Svete-NoxonPermalink Reply by Diane Svete-Noxon on October 17, 2011 at 6:37am Sales are slow. No doubt about it. Not only is the US economy in a twist but the Europeon economy also. "Occupy Wall Street" has now gone worldwide. Many Americans (like most of us) are upset that the government bailed out Banks fearing an economic failure and those Banks are flourishing while the average American is paying more not only to drive a car but to buy food for their families and utilities have skyrocketed. This is definitely eating into the 'wants' of people as their money goes for their needs. That doesn't mean that I'm going to slash prices in my shop. I will offer other alternatives that are less expensive to get Folks to my shop and view it's contents. ? Reply

Illusions by DonnaPermalink Reply by Illusions by Donna on October 21, 2011 at 9:12am

The truth that people are failing to see is that yes they did bail out the banks.. But the banks have paid all that money back with interest.. I agree that people are afraid to spend, but that is more a fault of the media.. A lot of people I know have the money, but they are afraid to spend it.

The bottom line is, when we have a national media that keeps hammering that there are no jobs and the economy is sooo bad, people stop looking for a job.. The other issue is that when people are on unemployment they don't start looking again til they are faced with the benefits running out. They feel entitled to that unemployment check and want to collect every cent they can. Meanwhile jobs are going left unfilled. People also feel that some jobs are 'beneath' them..They don't see the value of taking a lesser paying job and try to hold out for what they feel they are worth. Unfortunately for a lot of reasons 'what we are worth' can be an inflated number.

I've sold over $200 worth of stuff online in the last week, but that is because I do so much Facebook promotion. I got custom orders yesterday for 4 more hats. That's another $100 when I get the listings up. I'll just keep plugging away.

flights of fantasyPermalink Reply by flights of fantasy on October 18, 2011 at 12:41am

I'd agree that slashing prices is NOT the way to go - I watched people doing instant 'sales' at some of the craft fairs and it made no difference at all.

I have items from a few £s to £50+ and it is definitely the things under £5 that are selling (sorry not sure what the conversion rates are, but you get my drift, I am sure!

Best of luck to everyone for the next couple of months - if we can't sell before Christmas, what hope is there for next spring?

It IS slow over on this side of the ocean also! I have made a few sales each month, but not as many as I would like to!! My yearly membership has definitely been paid for with my sales, but would like more sales! The craft fairs here are extremely slow also, I see people discounting their items and it just makes no difference to buyers. There are a few buyers that come out, but they aren't buying like they used to! We just all need to hang in there and keep promoting, for when folks do have extra money to spend they will remember those that they see promoting!!
