Now that 2013 is here, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and do some shop cleaning and sprucing up for the new year! Here are some areas for you to consider as you prepare your shop for 2013…
Shop Banner Perhaps you’ve been ‘getting by’ with a banner for your shop that you’re less than thrilled with. Or maybe you’ve not committed to a banner yet. Shop banners and seller avatars are two very important components of establishing a recognizable ‘brand’ for your shop and merchandise. For very little money, you can have a banner custom made for your shop by one of Zibbet’s wonderful graphic artists. Search for ‘Zibbet banner‘ or ‘shop banner‘ to find products that will lead you to those graphic artists.
Inventory Evaluation If you have items in your shop that have been sitting there for months or even years, it may be time to replace them with some new things. If you have a Basic shop, try unlisting some items and listing some new ones. I highly recommend that you take advantage of all 50 free listings. The more items shoppers have to consider, the more likely they’ll find something they can’t live without!
Rearrange Premium sellers have the ability to rearrange the order in which their items appear in their shops. If you’ve not rearranged in a while, now is a great time to do that. Even if you don’t want to unlist items as described above, it may be helpful to move older items so that shoppers immediately see newer items when they first arrive in your shop. I recommend rearranging your items every couple of weeks. Google likes to see that your shop is active and that changes are occurring there. Rearranging your items is one way to do that.
List As mentioned above, Google likes to see changes. Listing new items is a super way to add positive change to your shop. Basic shops should list 50 items. Premium shops should strive for no less than 200 items. While you may not be able to do this all at once, gradually adding a few new items is a great way to keep your shop current and build your active inventory.
Remove Some ‘Stuff’ While you may be enamored by the ability to add widgets to your Premium shop, it’s easy to ‘over do’ it! Consider removing widgets that don’t serve a business function in your shop. Zibbet allows links from your Zibbet shop to your shops on other selling venues. I urge you to carefully evaluate the wisdom of doing this–just because you ‘can’, doesn’t necessarily mean that you ’should’! This practice makes sense in the business plans of some sellers but not for others. Only you can decide if linking to your shops on other selling venues is a wise business decision.
Best wishes for much success on Zibbet in 2013!

You are in for a super treat this week because we have a great interview by Michael Cohen who is the Mr. Mike of Mr. Mike TV. I just got done watching a few of Mr. Mike’s videos and they are delightfully entertaining. You are going to fall in love with Mr. Mike.Michael Cohen lives in Liverpool, New York with his wife, a son and two daughters. Mr. Mike’s house surely must be full and fun and laughter. I know a few Zibbeters who will likely want to add Mike as one of their dream neighbors. Please enjoy the interview, leave Mr. Mike a comment, and then use the Share Tools so others can read it, too. Please spread the Zibbet Love!
My most treasured thing that I am is a father and a husband. My wife and I have been married for 9 years and we have been blessed with 3 amazing children. Our son is 8 and very, very much into hockey. Our oldest daughter is 4 and wants to be a Rockette when she grows up. Our youngest daughter is 1 ½ and is just the happiest person on the planet. As far as work goes, I think I’ve touched all of the important bases – I’ve worked at a movie theater, McDonalds and Burger King, read tarot cards on a telephone hotline, directing newscasts at a local TV station, ran my own daycare alongside my wife, and worked as a Special Education Teacher, both in a classroom and around the community. Currently, I am working from home, using my knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Special Education to support families and entertain and educate children, both locally as well as through my website.
Right now, being “creative” is it for me. Without that creative edge, people aren’t inclined to stick around and listen to what I have to say, no matter how helpful it might be. It’s funny but, when I think about it, I can’t quite figure our where the entertainer in me end and the teacher begins. I record songs that entertain, videos that encourage some real participation and thinking on the children’s end, designed around age-appropriate themes and concepts, and am also fortunate enough to be able to offer some great “Sensory Support” goodies that can be personalized with favorite colors, characters, you name it! In short, however, I would say that what I do is encourage a love for imagination and learning in kids while providing a safe and supportive environment for parents and families.Parents are 100% my inspiration. In my career as a Special Education Teacher, I have been blessed to have worked alongside some of the most amazing parents as we figured out the best ways for their children to be happy and successful, both at home and at school. I have been welcomed into people’s homes, into their children’s schools, and into their lives, typically with apprehension at first and, as time goes on with such a warm, loving attitude. I have never felt so at home as when I get to talk to the parent of a child with whom I am working, whether it’s about the great or the soon-to-be great. It’s the parents love and devotion for their children that gives me the inspiration to put that love and devotion right back out there for their kids, and any children that want to stop by and visit, to see.
Even before I student taught, I had the opportunity to observe and even work a little in an Inclusion preschool classroom. Without a doubt, that teacher helped to shape the rest of my life. I remember, one day, she told me that her favorite part of her job was figuring out just what made each kid tick, like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. She worked hard to understand each child as an individual before she started coming up with, “what will work.” And the kids loved her for it. On the entertainment side, I’m also a huge fan of The Laurie Berkner Band. If they don’t write the catchiest, but so simple and basic, songs for children, I don’t know who does. Her music was very much in mind when I wrote and recorded my most recent CD, “The Kids, The Animals, And The Troublemakers.” And then, of course, the amazing folks that I subscribe to on YouTube, from budding (and now successful) musicians to comedy troupes, to children’s educators and entertainers, they have certainly inspired me to find my own way of bringing what I have to offer to children through the internet.
My passion is definitely my family. We haven’t had the easiest go of it these past few years but we all work together to love and support one another. I am so proud of my children for their endless love for themselves and each other. If watching my children smile and play with one another from across the room counts as a passion, then there you go.I am so excited to have Zibbet host The Mr. Mike TV Shop. The shop has been very easy to customize, so that it fits with my branding. From a shopper’s standpoint, it seems to be simple to navigate and definitely encourages the completion of sales. Already, I have been able to use Zibbet to converse with a parent placing an order and it has been so incredibly easy and seamless. So far, so good – for sure!I noticed when I was writing the description for one of my products that, while URLs that I put into the description are clickable (a great thing!), html code is not accepted and there is no way to add a hyperlink. I would definitely prefer to be able to mention one of my other products, for example, and have the name of that product be clickable as opposed to having to have the whole ugly URL in the description. Also, being a musician, I would love for Zibbet to offer digital downloads. This way, I can sell both physical copies of my CDs as well as digital ones, rather than referring people to iTunes.
Also, I definitely have plans to release several eBooks in the relatively near future. It would be great for customers to be able to download those instantly upon purchase as opposed to waiting for an e-mail with a link or an attachment from me.Right now, I’m trying to do a little bit of everything to get my name and my brand “out there.”Of course, there’s local word of mouth. I try to do my teaching and music thing whenever and wherever I can in my own area.
And then there’s the biggie: social media. Slowly but surely, I am figuring out the ins and outs of Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. In addition, my YouTube videos all have links to each other, to my shop, and to my website/blog.
I am definitely very new to Zibbet, so I’m sure that it’s going to take a little bit of time to discover the many things that have been serving to help Zibbet grow over the years. Right now, I would definitely say that people should not be shy – Put all that you’ve got out there. Don’t be embarrassed to really go after it and try to sell what you have to offer. What you have can help people, can make people smile, can keep people warm, can entertain, and on and on. From what I have seen so far, Zibbet also has a wonderfully supportive social community in and of itself. Use it. Use the knowledge that others have and share your own experiences. We’re all in this together and together is how we will be the most successful as well as bring the absolute best that we have to our customers.I would like to be doing exactly what I’m doing now, just more so. My goal is to release 5-7 new videos each week along with 5-7 blog posts, detailing new ideas to help families and children in all sorts of ways. I would like to use my shop to offer parents and children another way to experience the fun, education, and support that I have to offer – be it through weighted vests or blankets, music, preschool videos, books, etc. I love what I do and I look forward to growing and developing that with each passing day, week, and month.Tags: Featured Zibbeters, Mr Mike TV

Now that you know how to create, edit and rearrange your shop sections, let’s take a look at how to use those sections effectively. Your primary concern should be making your shop easy to navigate by shoppers. You want them to be relaxed and to not become overwhelmed as they browse your wonderful listings. While it’s good to have shoppers remain in your shop for more than a few seconds, you want them to stay because they’re enjoying the shopping experience rather than because it’s taking a long time to find what they’re seeking. Well organized shop sections are key components of a shopper friendly shop. Here are some points to keep in mind as you plan your shop sections:
Keep it simple. Take a careful look at your inventory and sort it into logical groupings. Zibbet allows for one item to be placed in more than one shop section. Do this only if the item clearly fits into multiple sections. Spamming your own shop sections with ‘borderline’ items defeats the whole purpose of creating sections and will only confuse shoppers.
Limit the number of sections. You can create as many sections as you want. However, just because you can, doesn’t necessarily mean that you should. Too many sections can be just as overwhelming as having no sections at all. If your inventory is extremely diverse, consider grouping your items into what appear to be subsections as Claranne of Clarify describes for us in the Store organization discussion over in Zibbet’s Community Hub.
Arrange your sections in a logical order. If you have just a few sections, shoppers can quickly and easily scan your list. For a short list of sections, do some keyword research. For SEO purposes, arrange your shop section list starting with the ‘best’ keyword title. However, if your inventory requires an extensive list of sections, don’t expect most shoppers to read the entire list to find exactly what they’re looking for. Arranging your list alphabetically will make scanning for a particular section easy and will keep your shoppers happy. Whether your list of sections is long or short, always let buyer intent be your primary guide when arranging your list.
Take some time to plan your sections carefully so that visitors to your shop enjoy browsing. Happy and relaxed shoppers are more likely to become buyers than those who are overwhelmed and frustrated by the lack of organization. The time you spend up front will pay off well into the future.
Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!

Last week I offered some suggestions on how to spruce up your shop for the new year. One of those suggestions was to rearrange your Premium shop. Related to rearranging is reorganizing with the use of shop sections. Whether your shop is Basic or Premium, you can create an unlimited number of shop sections that are customized for your inventory. Making your inventory easy for shoppers to navigate will increase your chances of making a sale.
To create sections in your shop:
1. While logged in to your account, click the Sections link under Shop Set-Up in your My Zibbet.

2. Enter the name of the section you’d like to create.
3. Click the Save Changes button.

4. Continue entering and saving sections until you’ve created the sections you need. Please note that you can add more sections at any time in the future.

To place existing items in the sections you’ve just created:
1. Go to your Listings page.
2. Click the Edit link for the item you want to add to one or more of your sections.

3. Select the section from the drop down menu labeled Shop Section.

4. If the item can logically be listed in more than one of your sections, click the + Add Section link to select another section for this item.

5. When you’ve completed section selection for an item, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
Please note that the Create New Section option works intermittently. I recommend that you not depend on it to create new sections ‘on the fly’. Instead, create new sections as you need them by going to Sections under Shop Set-Up as described above.
A section will not appear on your shop front until you’ve added at least one listing to that section.
As you list new items, you can select sections from the drop down Shop Sections menu while setting up the listing.
To rearrange the order in which your sections appear on your shop front:
1. While logged in to your account, click the Sections link under Shop Set-Up in your My Zibbet.
2. Place your mouse pointer over the section that you want to move. Your pointer will change to a four-headed arrow.

3. While pressing and holding your mouse button, drag the section to where you want it to appear in the list of sections on your shop from.
4. Release your mouse button to drop the section into its new position.

5. Click the Save Changes button.
6. Repeat until you’re satisfied with the order.
To edit the spelling or name of a section:
1. While logged in to your account, click the Sections link under Shop Set-Up in your My Zibbet.
2. Double click the section that you want to edit.
3. Enter your changes.

4. Click the Save Changes button.
5. Repeat until you’re satisfied with the changes.
While Zibbet doesn’t provide an option for creating subsections, Claranne of Clarify offers a suggestion for how to create sections and arrange them so that it looks like there are subsections in your shop. Take a look at the Store organization discussion over in Zibbet’s Community Hub for details.
Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!

No time like New Year’s Eve to meet Katy Larson of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Kate’s shop on Zibbet is called Kakers. You’ll find crocheted and knitted crafts. She has lots of scarves, gloves and hats to keep you warm, blankets to snuggle under to keep the cold January chill away. Ever see a round afghan? She has this beauty for sale in her shop.Kate loves cats and she knows what they like. Check out her unique cat toy inventions. Please enjoy the interview, leave Kate a comment, and then use the Share Tools so others can read it, too. Please spread the Zibbet Love!
My name is Kate, or I also go by Katy. I am 30 years old and I have a wonderful husband named Eric. We do not have children, we have cats instead. My shop is mostly crochet, though I sell some basic jewelry at times and am working on building a selection of knit items as well.
I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, which means I use the science of behavior and my job specifically is with children with autism and Down Syndrome. It’s such a rewarding job, and really helps with learning patience and problem solving.
Creating, whether it’s crocheting, knitting, making jewelry, or tie-dying, relaxes me. It’s a great way to wind down after a rough day or week. My inspiration for items I create varies and is typically just things that come up in ever day life. For example, I started making wallets because I got a new purse and needed a better wallet for it, so I figured out how to make one. I make a lot of things that I love and that I personally use myself on a regular basis.
I look up to my sister, because she is awesome. She is very dedicated to everything she does and can always manage to come up with a great idea or a better way to do something.
So many! I am lucky in that I am truly passionate about my job but also I am passionate about my family. I am passionate about swing dancing, it’s such a blast. Also I am passionate about gymnastics! Not just watching it, but as a great way of getting some exercise.
There is so much that I love about Zibbet. Of course I love that there are free shops offered, for people who are just getting their feet wet or don’t yet have the revenue to go Premium. Though I have had a Premium shop for over a year now, and enjoy the customization I can do, the option for free shops is a great way for people to see what to expect here. Another thing I really love about Zibbet is the community, after experiencing some seller communities with some brash attitudes I really appreciate how supportive both the sellers and the Zibbet staff are. Whether it’s in the community section or in Faceook groups related to Zibbet, the people involved with Zibbet are always positive and supportive!
Guest checkout I think would be the biggest improvement.
I do a lot of online promotion on my shops Facebook page, on twitter, I more recently started a blog though it is more about my daily adventures, which often involve creating things for my shop, rather than about promoting the shop. I pin things on Pinterest every time I list them. I carry my business cards with me everywhere and hand them out especially when someone comments on something I am using or am making in public. I crochet all over the place, including at McDonalds on my lunch break or in the airport and on an airplane when traveling. That gives the opportunity for people to approach me to comment on what I am doing and opens the door for me to hand them a card. Also, I like pages with my shops Facebook page and try to comment or like from there, so people can stumble across me that way.
Put in every bit of energy you can into your shop. Take some data on what sells when, or on what promotions bring the most views and sales to your shop so you know what to do again and what is a waste of your time. Have a poll to see what people want to buy, and listen to it! It took me a year to finally make more fingerless gloves even though it was the most requested thing on my poll, and a pair sold faster than anything I’ve listed once I finally added them. Also, really utilize the community. Chat in the forums, or the chat room. Join Facebook groups related to Zibbet. You will find a lot of tips and suggestions and strategies or just a great listening ear.
Older, and a better knitter. Maybe a successful west coast swing dancer. Overall in the future I’d like to be just like I am now but more awesome.

Renee’s cookie photos are perfect for “pinning”, too if you have a Pinterest page.
I can no longer consider myself a stay at home mom since my daughter is about to graduate from college, so housewife suits me just fine. I quit my day job several years ago and have been baking sugar cookies since 2009. I had spent the past 20 years in an industry that I did not enjoy so I decided to take the leap into what made me happy, baking. From the time I was a little girl I always said that I wanted to be a chef when I grew up. I started making sugar cookies on a fluke; I had never decorated a cookie in my life. I was always making other types of cookies, but never hand decorated. I was participating in a bake sale so I watched a You tube video in how to apply frosting and I was off. I do a little bit of everything, besides baking cookies I am currently going to school and trying to get into nursing school.
Everything I see, whenever I am at the craft store I am constantly looking at baskets and cookie cutters to see what I can make with them. I always have my phone with me so I can take pictures that give me inspiration. I love to sit with a basket of cutters and think about what I can turn them into. Since I make mini cookies there are not that many cutters, I own several hundred, but it always seems that I am looking for something that I don’t have. You might see a present cookie cutter; I see a backpack, Lego’s, Dreidel, Popcorn, Sponge Bob, a television. The possibilities are endless. The one person that always been my touchstone is my mom. She taught me at a young age how to bake and cook, and how to truly be gracious. She is always doing for others and does whatever she can to help out. She is the most selfless person I know. If there is someone in need she is the first to lend a hand, whether it is giving someone a ride or making dinner for someone sick at church. She is always the first to volunteer; I don’t think I have ever heard of her turn down an opportunity to make someone else’s life easier. I can only hope that someday I can be just like her. She is my mom, mentor, and best friend.
Christmas, I love everything about it. I start decorating my house in November, I am a little embarrassed to admit that I have now have 3 Christmas trees all with different themes. I like to make as much of the decorations myself as I can. I think it stems back to when I was a girl and would fall asleep under the Christmas tree it was so magical looking up at the lights. This year I even carved out all new, bases, mountains, platforms and roadways for my village. It took 2 months and allot of instructional videos on You Tube. And yes I still love to fall asleep by the tree, but now I nap on the sofa, not the floor.I love the community; everyone is so nice and encouraging. Setting up my shop was super easy, and I love the copy feature when making my new listings.
I would love for there to be a place where we could make collections of other member’s items that could be showcased. I market myself everywhere I go, since I make cookies I am constantly coming up with new designs. I take those cookies and bag them up and give them to friends to take to work, it’s free advertising. I am signing up for sampler boxes to put my goodies in, they are a great way to advertise and again I always have extra cookies. Wit the sampler boxes you are only out the cost of the samples and shipping. I also like to participate in at least one large event per year where I am a sponsor, to get my name out. I have accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Rebel Mouse, Pinterest, Tumblr, Stumble Upon, and Flickr that I post to daily. Zibbet has the buttons where I can easily share my items, and I have just started a new blog. I always make sure to keep business cards on me, when I am buying supplies the checker always asks what I am making and I tell them cookies and their eyes light up, I then give them a card, its perfect.
Whew that’s allot, but if you want a company to grow I think you have to work at it. One of my favorite lines is from the movie Field Of Dreams “If You Build It They Will Come”. Try your hand at several types of advertising and definitely get involved in Social media. One of my favorite new sites is Rebel Mouse; it puts your social media sites together in one platform so the people who follow you can see everything in one place. And always use the share button after you post your listing it’s the easiest way to get your product noticed.Exactly who I am now. Not that I don’t like to dream, I just think I am finally at a place in my life that is exactly where I want to be. Where else could I wear slippers and watch Christmas movies at work.Tags: Featured Zibbeters, The Cookie Maven
New Zibbeters sometimes have trouble uploading their banners. The problem is almost always the dimensions of the banner. Basic shop banners must be 880 pixels wide by 120 pixels high with a maximum file size of 2MB.
Premium shop banners must be one of three sizes: 880 pixels wide by 120 pixels high, 880 pixels wide by 200 pixels high or 880 pixels wide by 250 pixels high. The maximum file size for all Premium banners is 2MB. Please note that Etsy-sized banners can no longer be uploaded to a Zibbet shop.
To upload a banner in a Basic shop:
While logged in to your shop, click the ‘Shop Front’ link on your ‘My Zibbet’ page.Next, click the ‘Browse’ button to navigate to the location on your computer where your banner is saved. Again note that the Etsy-sized banner option is no longer functional.Next, click the ‘Browse’ button to navigate to the location on your computer where your banner is saved. After selecting your banner file, you’ll be returned to your ‘Shop Banner’ page.Click the ‘Save’ button before leaving this page.
Please note that the only way to remove a banner is to replace it with another one. To do this, follow the same steps outlined above. After saving your first banner, your ‘Save’ button will be converted to a ‘Save Changes’ button. Don’t forget to click this button before leaving the page after uploading a new banner.
Remember that Zibbet has graphic artists who create wonderful customized shop banners at very reasonable prices. Conduct a Zibbet search for ‘shop banner‘ or ‘Zibbet banner‘ to help locate some of these sellers.

5. Jewelry Rack - Organizer Display Wood Rack by Cventno Plovdiv $31: Is your jewelry all tangled in a jewelry box? Get it organized on this wall rack. The rack has places to attach earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pins. The wood frame is gold embosses. I love the creative combination of the leather with the wood. You really must see the additional close-up photos in the listing.
