Any One Else Debating on Leaving Etsy for Zibbet? Posted by Lindasue Spirit Eyes Stage on January 22, 2011 at 11:00am in Chit-Chat View Discussions
Ahhh...the natives are restless on Etsy. I have a shop there, too. But very seriously thinking of letting it quietly slip off into the night. Just let my current listings run out in time. And devoting more time here.
Problem is I am fairly established there. I have already imported my items to here and slowly editing and listing them. But I see Etsy on a down ward spiral. My Etsy bill is getting over $20 a month and most of that is listing. I am sure that this is a smaller bill than most.
Nice thing here is, I am paying less than 1/2 of that costs and can have as many items as I want here without adding to my bill. Plus I don't have to go off-site to set up a sale...and EOS has since started charging for this service.
There are coupon codes here too.
Now the rumble is the closing of the open forums.
I will miss the Treasuries, though. Is there something similar to that here?
All in all, I will be devoting more time and effort here I think.
Opinions or Ideas?

Lindasue,
I've been gone from Etsy for a couple years now.
I love Zibbet.
Yes, there is going to be something similar to the treasuries here, except MUCH better.

$20/month for listings is kinda ridiculous, to me. I left Etsy in November, and never looked back. I hate to see it falling apart, as I was there for over 3 years, but it's definitely coming down.
We welcome you to Zibbet with open arms, Lindasue!

I am not active on etsy b/c the bookkeeping was a nightmare! The flat rate on Zibbet is one easy monthly expense entry for my bookkeeping spreadsheet. Would be nice if paypal did something similar:)
I love Zibbet and their response time is outstanding!

Seems like I am not the only one dis-illusioned there. This is good to know. So guess I will....
* Finish editing my listings here and get them up and running
* Inform all of my Etsy Customers/FaceBook Fans of the upcoming change
* Watch for Treasury program here

In my profile and shop announcement I added my zibbet link...not sure if that is allowed but it is there for now.
One other thing that will help...Move your shop url to the top of your community profile page...just click and drag it. Other Zibbeters will be able to find your shop easier:)

lets not forget it's the people who made etsy what it is, not etsy. a site is a site.
the people advertised, and brought the clients.
now...if we just do that here, they will come here. and the rent is far cheaper.
cant' complain with guest checkout coming here. that will be a huge plus over other venues.
i have been slowly adding things over here. my supplies still sell there but some are starting to come over here now.
i believe E shot themselves in the foot one too many times.
Join us in promoting the Zibbet site!

I so agree. My holiday bill alone was crazy. And many people were re-listing like crazy just to stay on top of FP. To me that was nuts. IMHO buyers are NOT going to scroll down to the bottom of the page just to see what was listed 5-10 seconds ago. Perhaps if E listened about the messed up search, people wouldn't be so ticked off....
Just sayin'

I think that Etsy will stay for many reasons that are listed but most important is the exposure. Take for example Ebay. Not only have they continuously raise their fees but have become very unsympathetic and responsive to the Seller. That should be the end of it but they are massive and it's such a large venue that you can find just about anything on it. That's why it continues to exist. Etsy will remain, perhaps not in the same calibre that it once was but It's Established name will fend off many of it's deficits.
I definitely was timid in leaving Etsy and did it over a drawn out time just letting items expire. I'v never regretted my move to Zibbet. There is No Way that I could justify the amount of items that I have in My shop with the Etsy fees and find no excuse for an administration to be lacking in their responses to their Sellers. I definitely am a Diehard Zibbet Fan for more reasons than I can list on one Page!

I've only just moved across here, I've still got a fairly new shop on Etsy. I won't close the shop, I'll still list items and maintain it, but I'm going to devote more attention to here. It just seems a much friendly atmosphere and a lot less clique-y, thats what put me off the forums on Etsy.

Lindasue, yes the natives at Etsy are restless. I am a rookie there, opened my shop in October and have done fairly well there, but most of my sales and traffic are from my own promoting through Facebook and from family and friends.
I have felt a cliquey, competitiveness between sellers, and uneasiness at Etsy in the short time I was there. I am sure it was very good at one time from what I hear, but things are changing, and although I wasn't there very long, I definitely noticed how unhappy the old timers were becoming. It's kind of like when you are at work and everyone is complaining about how bad it is, but they don't leave.
I understand that most of the unhappy sellers there have shops that are established and it is hard to pick up and leave, but I got the hint. Since I am very new there, I don't bash, and I am very observant so I decided to move on to find something better. Because I have a new shop it was easy for me to do so, so I am very fortunate. I have searched and researched and there is something about Zibbet that I really like. Everyone here is very friendly, welcoming and supportive. It also seems like the powers that be want to make this site very successful and are looking out for our best interests. I feel like we are the building blocks of what can eventually be a good thing for us. Hopefully my intuition is right.
Let's hope we can all become successful in doing what we love. We should all be so lucky!
Just my 2 cents! :)

Permalink Reply by Sunshine and Whimsy on February 6, 2011 at 4:38am Ultimately my goal is to say goodbye to Etsy forever, but for now, I need to stay where the action is, you know? I added items to my shop on Etsy and within just a few hours I had sales. Here, in the same amount of time, I've had 16 shop views. That's all with the same amount of promoting. On Artfire, I've had several sales in the same amount of time. I love the flat yearly rate I've got here rather than the listing and selling fees over there, I'm just waiting for the traffic to start coming in. :) It will come, though, I know. It just takes time. ? Reply

I stopped renewing my Etsy listings as of a couple weeks ago. I also opened an ArtFire shop, but plan to focus on my Zibbet shop and my website.
If I had any doubts, they were resolved when one of the Etsy admin people posted in its forum on February 2 "Circles and the activity feed are really core to what Etsy's about, and will be integrated more fully into the site." For me, that shift, away from facilitating commerce in handmade, vintage, and supplies to primarily facilitating social interaction, says they have lost their way.
And for the new friend findability features, I consider it to be the mark of a bad cyber citizen that Etsy is requiring people to opt-out to protect their privacy, and even worse that Etsy plans a spam campaign using email contacts of its members.
While daily traffic numbers here are minuscule compared to Etsy (2700/day at Zibbet compared to 801,000/day at Etsy according to quantcast.com), we are all bigger fish in this small pond, and Zibbet shows a stronger growth trend than does Etsy. So, I think with some patience those of us here will be rewarded.
Besides, the demographics at Zibbet better suit my product line, with visitors a little bit older, I mean more sophisticated, and a little bit wealthier than Etsy. I will not criticize those who stay with Etsy, it will be a better fit for many sellers, but for me, this is a friendlier neighborhood.
