5. account feedback

Hi everyone:

I am quite new on Zibbet and I still have the free account. I set it up first to see how it goes and now I am wondering how everyone feels about the premium account. Tell me your experiences with it and what improvements you've seen in your shop after upgrading your account (if that is the case).

Positive and negative experiences are welcome! I am very curious to know you all personal experiences, please!!

Thank you everyone!!

11. Spammer/Scammer Reminders

Just a quick note to remind everyone to be careful when responding to messages through your Zibbet account, here through your Community account or through your personal email account(s). Unfortunately, spammers and scammers are a fact of life online today. Here are some tips on how to recognize a message from a spammer/scammer:

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!If the message contains questions that can be answered by reading your listing, then it's most likely a spam/scam message. Questions concerning obvious facts about an item such as price and availability are dead giveaways that the inquiry isn't legitimate.Requests for you to contact the person directly instead of through your Zibbet or Community account is another clue. This is most likely an attempt to harvest active email addresses for other spam/scam activities.Requests for you to call the person on the phone is another ploy spammers/scammers will use.Discussion about a courier coming to pick up the item is common in spam/scam messages.

Any time you receive a message with any of these characteristics, contact us at support@zibbet.com. Be sure to include the username of the individual so that we can quickly track them down and close the offensive account.

Do not respond to the message from the sender! That only encourages them. The best response to a spam/scam message is no response at all.

Be safe!

 It has been almost a year for me here and I have paid every month for my shop, which is a good price. I still have my items on other venues but have not sold a thing on this one. How long do you stay in a venue with no sales. A lot of you have stated to me that my items are too expensive, not wanted and really not quality items while others like them but either way..after a while you have to reflect on the year and see how much you want to put out or move to another venue. Have any of you thought about this?  I promote on all the avenues out there and get lots of looks, in the 4-500s but yet no sales here on Zibbet. So how long do you keep paying for a venue that is not paying back?

Thanks

Well.... first of all  I don't think your items are to expensive, unwanted or not quality items.  Whoever in the world told you that?  Second of all,  I see the visitor counter in your shop and it only says 190 something visitors......  2 of my shops views are up in the 2-3 thousand a month and I have over 200 sales in two shops on here... I promote all the time and try to be an active member in the community and on FB, Twitter, Pinterest, Wanelo, and wherever you can "talk" about your Zibbet shop.  You are not promoting enough to get the views that will eventually bring sales. If you are more involved with anther shop on another venue,  that will not bring you sales on ZIbbet.  Zibbet needs to be your #1 focus,  you must bring your customers to your Zibbet shop.  Also you only have 47 items,  LIST, LIST, LIST,  that will also help you get views.  Join Z Box for some extra promotion!

Personally......I will have been on here for a year in Aug.  I have had a couple sales.

I know that I need to do more with my shop but, with that said I will always use Zibbet as my main site.

I love the community here and that people are very friendly and helpful, you don't find that much in other venues.

I also promote my shop here much more than I do for the other venue I am on.

I just sent in samples to the Z box and hope that this will also help with getting my name out there.

I also need to put more items in my shop....which I am working on now.

My views have steadily gone up since I started here......I also know that they don't always turn into sales but, you never know.

Rebecca wow I would love to have that many views.  :-)

Any way with all that said......................I have to agree with what Rebecca said.

List more and promote, promote, promote......you have to be proactive to bring in your customers.

You have an adorable shop. I don't know why you aren't selling more. The longer I'm here, the more I see sellers making sales. I think you should try a little longer because of the recent press that Zibbet has received. The site is growing. Since you do not have 50 items perhaps you could try a free shop for awhile so you aren't losing money, and you would still have a presence here.

How long one stays with no sales and why one remains with no sales will be quite variable.  It depends on your own business or hobby goals.  For some, it may be just a marketing cost to support sales at other locations; for others, it may be just a hobby cost.  You'll need to decide on your own goals and achievement dates.

If your goal is sales, then you'll need to figure out what sells and then start selling to the market at a market price.  If you list more of the same non-selling items, listing more isn't the answer.  You'll need to list those types of items which have a high probability of selling.

If your are operating a business, then you need to decide if there is a benefit to the ongoing cost, if not, then cancel the cost.  Only the business owner can make that decision.  Keeping track of all business costs and revenues should make the decision very easy.  Whatever decision the owner makes, it should be a rational business decision appropriate to the specific business, not compared to someone else.

Rebecca said it well on every point. Have you thought of joining some groups on Facebook...the Zibbet groups as well as those that might be interested in your work-kids groups,Mom's groups? If your sales on other venues are going through the roof and nothing here that may mean even though you think you're promoting Zibbet, it's not enough. Personally I can't promote more than one shop and although my things are elsewhere, my sales are on Zibbet because this is where I promote.

Regarding the statement that "my items are too expensive, not wanted and really not quality items"...that source should be totally discounted! ?

I've been on Zibbet for almost one year and have been asking myself the same thing.  I have just four sales here, all mohawk hats.  Honestly, though, I've only been really serious about Zibbet since the beginning of 2012 when I upgraded to a premium account.  I've joined a few groups here and that seems to have helped.  I have to do more promoting for this shop.  I also recently upgraded to premium in my photography shop here.  I've been working on listing more work there.

How long to stay is a decision only the seller can make.  It all depends on your individual circumstances.  I wish you much luck in whatever you decide.  For me, I'm staying here for while since the four sales I have had here have covered my fees until Dec. 2012.

Linda, I remember one incident where someone made those criticisms.  And honestly, since he was a guy, I understood.  I have lived with four guys half of my adult life.  I rarely, if ever, ask their opinion on things such as style, function or pricing of my items.  My guys have NO clue.  *grin*.

We can all think what we want about someone else's items, but it boils down to what you know you must charge and what the market will bear.  Individuals will have different tastes and what is worth something to one isn't to another.  Another aspect to this is that sometimes we have to accept that some items may not be worth making if we have to charge so much just to break even and that price is too high for the market.

Having said that.  I also remember the suggestion of putting some of your cases in a group listing rather than selling them as a single item.  I see that you have done that.  But I can't tell from the descriptions which ones are.  You have a grouping of 3 in one photo but the description sounds like it's for one only.  Then you have a listing photo for one and it sounds like it's for more but I don't know how many.  And the pricing is the same for each listing so it's a little confusing as a buyer.

And what everyone else said, promoting your shop to drive people here is the main way to get sales on Zibbet. But I've also heard very often, when all efforts are equal, certain items sell better from one venue than others.

I had my first sale ever on Etsy after 18 months. When I came here I had my first sale after 10 days of opening my shop. I use Twitter and Facebook to promote my little corner of the world. I watch those store and item views all the time. I promote the heck out of my shop. Dropping out of Premium will help cost wise, but there are advantages of the Premium account, such as appearing on the front page. I say keep in there, and promote your shop. Get into chats can help with that, too. Getting your name out there and in front is part of the game.

I was asking myself that same question. I've been at Zibbet since March and nothing and not much traffic. To be fair I realize it was basically my own fault because I was spending 80% of my time on other venues where I was getting traffic and sales. I had already decided to give Z a try through the holidays and then make a decision when out of the blue a buyer contacted me to purchase 40 pieces of an item for a baby shower! She was ready to buy and purchased within the hour. My first Z sale was an awesome one and completely unexpected. I've decided to stay and put in more time and effort into my shop. Those Z buyers are out there! ? Reply

I hear what you all are saying. I cannot give up my other shops because they are making money and I guess I look at this one and think it will be like my B & M shop but you have to do a lot more work on the Internet. I know i have not listed even near the 600 items I sell.  Guess it is time to stop making for a couple of days and start working on the net more. Lots to list and marketing to do and in time we shall see. Thanks for the ideas, there were there just guess I forget the big difference between Internet selling and a B & M. Will keep going forward, Now need to get likes on my FB page and get going. Thanks everyone

I don't think your items are too expensive or unwanted. Whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about.

I will be here a year in July and have sold 21 items. Actually 28 but 7 of them were things people saw and wanted to buy them without having to register here. I have had a total of 8,405 shop views since being here. This month I have had only 362 so far. My biggest month was in April with 1,267 but I think that was because I was a featured Zibbeter that month. I have no plans on leaving here but if I go for a long period without a sale I would probably try to do some more promotions to get things rolling again. It's a tough place to sell because I think the lookers here are older women than what Etsy sees. I could be wrong, but that is the general feeling I get. I hope you get some sales soon.

4. 'Pin It' on Zibbet!

You may have noticed that over the weekend we added a handy Pinterest button to every item on Zibbet. This allows shoppers to easily 'Pin' your items to their Pinterest boards. This increased share-ability of your items is sure to bring more traffic to your shop and more shoppers to Zibbet! Try it out today!

For the benefit of those that aren't familiar with Pinterest, here's an explanation straight from their website:

"Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests."

Pinterest is now considered the 3rd most popular social network in the world. Therefore, it's important to familiarize yourself with it and begin to research some of the marketing strategies that will help you drive more traffic to your Zibbet shop.

Here's some more handy articles on Pinterest:

3. Zibbet and Promoting Your Business

First off, Kathy, I have to say this. Personally, I love the idea of sending periodic messages to past customers via the email addresses provided through PayPal. However, I was recently informed that this could be seen as spam, since the customers never explicitly consented to receiving emails from the seller beyond the original sale. By gathering up email addresses through PayPal, without telling customers that you are 'collecting' addresses, you could very quickly be reported for spam. I know, it doesn't make sense from the seller's point of view, but I do understand, as a buyer, not wanting to receive messages without actually consenting to it. Which is why, if you ARE going to collect addresses, you need to clearly specify that, and allow people the option to be removed from your list. If you want to get into email marketing, you need to create a separate mailing list where people can willingly sign up. This is something I am considering in the future....

Now that I've gotten that out, I can move on to the analytics part. If you have a premium shop, there is a way to (kind of) set up Google Analytics for your shop. The code is installed as an invisible widget. The numbers aren't accurate, but the proportions are. Also, GA gives you sources, keyword searches, and all sorts of other nifty things to consider. If you search the threads here in the hub, you should be able to find the Google Analytics workaround.

The best thing we can do to promote Zibbet and our shops here, in my personal opinion, is to give up any other selling venue, get your own url and direct it to Zibbet (if you don't have a stand-alone site already), and focus on reaching the people that have not heard of Zibbet before. I gave up my Etsy shop (100 sales in 3 years) in December 2010. I started fresh here the next month. I went premium here in July 2011. I'm currently sitting at 70 items sold and an average of 2500 views per month. About 75% of my sold items were purchased from people brand new to Zibbet who found me through Google (which tells me keywords are seriously important in being found).

It IS possible to do well here, we just have to find what works for each of us.

Times Two

This week marks the completion of my second year writing the Success on Zibbet column for Zibbet’s blog, Inspire. I’ve also been busy answering Zibbet Support tickets for a year. Wow! Where did the time go? Both endeavors have been challenging and fun, and activities that I’m thankful to have the opportunity to participate in. I’d like to thank Jonathan and Andrew for offering me the chance to fill these two roles and contribute to Zibbet in these important ways. Thanks to Jonathan and Jess for their patience as I learned my way around Support asking lots of questions along the way. Last, but by far not the least, thank you to every Zibbeter who has read and commented on our SOZ articles this past year and to those who’ve asked questions through Support. Please know that your feedback is important as we move forward with making great improvements to Zibbet as well as maintaining a balanced operation from day to day.

As the next year unfolds, I’d love to hear from you regarding topics you want and need to read about. The Success on Zibbet column is all about providing information that will help you be successful here. Please leave your questions, ideas and suggestions for future articles in the comment section below. Working together with Jonathan, I’ll attempt to address those topics that are most important and relevant to you. So please let us hear from you.

Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!

17. Do you have an exit strategy?

I was wondering what would happen should the horrible happen and either through serious illness, accident or death, your shop needed to be closed.

Recently, someone I only knew through chatting through another venue has passed on. Her shop here is still open.

Her shop could languish and fade, but wouldn't it be better if there were a plan in place, so that family can take care of final disposition of the shop.

What would you do for your shop?

2. I See So Many Amazing Items Here...

I also have to say TRUE..

but, I think the economy comes into play right now and some folks are keeping prices low so as to get sales they might not get otherwise, because people have less money to spend.

I make shop banners for just $12.00.

Some of them can take me 8 hours or more to create including emails with the customer.

That's $1.50 hour.

Is my time worth more than yet?

Heck yeah!

But if I made my shop banners $50 or $100 would anyone order them?

Think not. Many of my customers are struggling to pay bills just as I am.

I am very happy and thankful that they keep returning to me when they need more graphics for business cards, tags, ads, widgets, craft show banners, door hangers, post cards, packaging, thank you cards and etc.

Also as a buyer, and I have bought a lot from all 4 of my shops combined, everything I have bought has been worth way more than the prices paid. I love many of the high priced items I see but it isn't possible for me to buy them. As a customer I am happy that artists are willing to sell at a lower price like I do to get the sales.

Copyright Revisited

According to Wikipedia, copyright is defined as a “legal concept, enacted by most governments, giving the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time. Generally, it is ‘the right to copy’, but also gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms, who may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it, and other related rights.”

From time to time, possible copyright infringement reports are sent to Zibbet Support. The most common types of copyright issues reported to Zibbet include the sale of copyright images, both in the form of digital image sheets and in the form of finished items, and the sale of PDF copies of books, magazines, etc. According to Chapter 5 of the Copyright Law of the United States of America: Copyright Infringement and Remedies, “The legal or beneficial owner of an exclusive right under a copyright is entitled, subject to the requirements of section 411, to institute an action for any infringement of that particular right committed while he or she is the owner of it.” [501(b)] In other words, if you believe that your copyright has been infringed, you can take appropriate action. Chapter 5 of the US copyright law also defines specifically how a copyright owner is to provide notification of copyright infringement. The ‘Elements of Notification’ portion of the the law [512(c)(3)(A)(i-vi)] reads:

(3) Elements of notification. -

(A) To be effective under this subsection, a notification of claimed infringement must be a written communication provided to the designated agent of a service provider that includes substantially the following:

(i) A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

(ii) Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.

(iii) Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to locate the material.

(iv) Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted.

(v) A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

(vi) A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

Zibbet is serious about upholding and respecting copyrights. According to US copyright law (as stated above), reporting copyright infringement is the responsibility of the owner or his/her designated agent. If you believe that your copyrights have been infringed by another Zibbet seller, provide notification of such infringement to Zibbet at support@zibbet.com. Please note that this notification must include the information listed above.

Your mission, should you choose to take on this challenge is to create (artists and crafters) or find (vintage and supply sellers) what the wedding planner's customer desires for her wedding.

The young bride-to-be wishes for an outdoor woodsy wedding. She loves trees, rocks, shells, and all things natural. She is a nature girl. She tells the wedding planner she doesn't like frivolous and glittery things. She likes simplicity. She cares about the earth and wants all things reusable or recyclable at her wedding. She hangs out at Pinterest collecting photos of country and Reniassance weddings. She likes Bohemian style and hippie style. She can't decide on colors for her wedding because she likes all colors. She tells the planner she wishes for simplicity in table decorations, and loves old canning jars, wood signs, candlelight, banners and wants an outdoor wedding in a wooded nature center.

Even the wedding planner needs help deciding on table decorations, invitations, props, favors, table settings, signs, lighting, banners, outdoor decorations, wedding gown, and everything for the wedding party: bridesmaid dresses, boutonnieres for the groom, best man and ushers, flower girl, ring bearer accessories.

Oh my! Can you help? Post your interest in joining in on this new challenge. Then come back and post your entry.

Today May16th starts the challenge.

You have one month (4 weeks) until June 13th at 11PM EST to enter your item.

One entry per Zibbet ID.

Five winners will be chosen by a panel of judges.

The five winners will appear in the Fantastic Five on Monday June 18th

The First Place Winner will also be in the Zibbet Newsletter and become a Featured Zibbeter.

Items must be listed in your Zibbet shop for sale.

Post your item here and I will pin it to this Pinterest Board (giving your item even more exposure).

http://pinterest.com/graffiti/zibbet-s-wedding-challenge-2012/

If your item sells on Zibbet before the end of the challenge it will still qualify.

If you choose to list the same item on another venue and it sells there before the end of the challenge it will be disqualified. Reason is simply because when it gets featured the link to the unlisted item won't work.

~~~~~~
If you would like to be one of the judges, speak up here, first 5 volunteers will be accepted.
Judges may not enter the challenge.
Fantastic Five: Sea Glass Dreams
Just putting this Fantastic Five together has me yearning for sand between my toes. The main photo will have me beach dreaming tonight.
Sea glass is exciting to find on the beach and these artists have put their finds to use in very talented ways.
Special thanks to Barbra for her idea and helping to select the items for this week’s five.
After reading my captions, and please do read them, you can find more wonderful sea glass and sea treasures with these key tag words: sea glass, shells, seaside, beach, sand, summer. Please use the Share Tools to Spread the Zibbet Love! Thanks.
1. Beach Decor Seashell Frame with Sea Glass and Starfish by Beach Grass Cottage $75: Love the seashore? You’ll love this Zibbet shop with nearly 200 handmade coastal beach decor items. Mirrors, wreaths, and wall decor. The artist hand collects shells and sea glass when visiting her snowbird parents on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
2. Geometric Sea Glass Earrings by Bits Off The Beach $15: Jo grew up in the Pacific Northwest and loves walking the beach. Jo says, “These [earrings] remind me of the shifting colors of the Caribbean on a sunny day.” Last I checked there was a sale going on in this Zibbet shop. Better hurry!
3. Sea Glass and Glass Flower Heart Pendant Necklace by Surfside Sea Glass $15:  Pretty sea glass from Puerto Rico combined with a pretty glass heart and a silver plated chain would make a lovely summertime gift. Surfside Sea Glass carries stunning pendant necklaces, pretty lockets and earrings.
4. Wire Wrapped Sea Glass Sea Foam for Pendant Link Bracelet or Connector by Aquablue Sea Glass $14:  This Zibbet artist lives in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico near the beach allowing her to find wonderful sea treasures for crafting her art and jewelry.
5. Light Aqua Blue Sea Beach Glass Beads by Velvet Glass $4.50: How about trying your hand at creating your own sea glass art with this listing of 17 disc beads! Velvet Glass has a variety of sea glass beads in different colors.
15. Banner problems
Help! I am having problems with a new banner. I decided to make a new banner today (all I originally wanted to do is add a border to the edges). I am pretty comfortable with photoshop and made the banner below (It is not the right dimensions here, but you get the idea). I used the exact dimensions that the website said (880x200 for a large size). When I uploaded it, the image is messed up. If you click the link to my shop, you will see what I mean, but basically it is not smooth like this one (especially noticable around the letters). I redid it, changing the resolution in case that was the problem, but it did not help. Any thoughts? I hate the way it looks in my shop, but when I tried to go back to my original banner, it looked awful now too.  It shouldn't matter, but I just switched to premium right before this, so maybe that affected it somehow?
Fantastic Five: Father’s Day
Whatever your father is into you are sure to find a special gift for him on Zibbet. What does your Dad enjoy? Golf? Fishing, Camping, Race Cars? Is he a Musician? A Geek?
The main photo shows a perfect example of Father’s Day Love, so be sure to give your dad a lot of hugs and kisses when you present your cards and gifts.
Check Zibbet’s Father’s Day Gift Guide as well as Men, Father and Dad. To shop for something theme related try these searches: Sports, Geek, Camping, Hunting, Fishing, Racing, Football, Baseball, Occupations, Music… Please use the Share Tools to Spread the Zibbet Love!
1. Dad Musical Instruments Handmade Card by Butterfly Crafts $4: This handmade card has been covered with a tartan paper and the central image has been raised with foam tape. The eloquent letters for DAD are yellow/cream, there is also a gramophone, violin and cello. Such a handsome card for your musical father.
2. Canvas Basic Padded Laptop Bag by White Cross Designs $27.99: This handsome rugged laptop case is made and ready to ship. Super protection with the foam padding and heavy weight canvas. Dad is sure to love it! Many more to choose from including messenger bags, totes and even men’s neckties.
3. Hole In One Hand Stamped Golf Marker by Dzign by Jamie $3: Perfect affordable gift for Dad, the kids can buy. The artist says it so well: “Give me a HOLE IN ONE, baby!! Every golfers pre-swing prayer,….  I made some of these hand stamped golf markers for my dad and he loved them so much I thought I’d share with others.”
4. Slate Blue / Tan Floral Batik Cotton Aloha Shirt by Man Overboard $60:  If I had a man in the house I’d be dressing him in shirts by Man Overboard whose slogan is, “Rescuing Men from Ordinary Apparel.” This shirt is 100% cotton batik and has coconut shell buttons. See the shop for more choices.
5. NASCAR Plastic Bag Holder by Mimi and Colette $6.50: Here’s another item the kids can present to Papa. Would be great in the garage, basement, his office or workshop. Feed the bags in through the top and when he needs a bag, pull one out through the bottom. Will put the end to hearing, “Hey Honey I need a bag.” He’ll have his own supply.
