18. Crochet during the summer

MainMy PageMembersForumGroupsChatPhotosOrtist All Discussions My Discussions Add Crochet during the summer Posted by Angela McQuown on May 21, 2012 at 8:54pm in Chit-Chat View Discussions

What are all my fellow crocheters doing to survive the summer? My six month selling streak looks like it's about to come to an end. I have some hair accessaries and bags in my shop but no one seems interested. Is anyone else having this issue?

Angela, I'm having the same problem.  No one wants to think about buying anything made with yarn during the summer.  LOL I'm still crocheting my butt off, though, so I can be prepared for the winter season and holiday sales.

I also crochet (and knit) now for the winter selling online and the fall is my heavy show season. I do have a "Christmas in July" show for early birds.

Buttons, is there anything you don't know how to craft???  LOL  I'm stocking up for winter, too.  Last year I wasn't prepared for so many orders (on E) and was doing lots of custom hats which kept me up crocheting to the wee hours.  I refuse to do that this year.

This year I'll be selling them exclusivley on Zibbet so wish me luck for lots of sales!

Thanks,Anna! I do do alot of different crafts and continue crochet and knitting because of the portability. i think I have crafters ADD because I switch around so much.  DO NOT ask me to sew...my machine hates me!!!!

Good luck with your sales!

Buttons, I think I suffer from the same malady, the crafters ADD. LOL   I crochet for the same reason: you can take it anywhere.

I love working with the paper crafts like the small notebooks.  I love designing greeting cards, too, but need to organize my studio space so I can do more of it.  I love desiging jewelry but that doesn't sell well online, except my crochet earrings.  I love sewing and am doing more of it these days.  :)

Have you thought of crocheting rag rugs?  I just started one and can't wait to see how it looks.  :)

Amigurumi!  I haven't had a lot of success on Zibbet, but it's my own fault because I haven't put the time & energy into it that it deserves.  However, I usually attend a weekend Farmer's Market as a vendor, selling my crochet stuffed critters.  I have great success there, and it gets better each weekend as the weather improves.  So it seems to be one area of crochet that does do well in summer.  Also, I recently sold 2 items (elsewhere) as graduation presents.  My stuff tends to be kid-oriented, but adults love them.  A Hippo and a Gator were sold as graduation gifts, one from high school one from college (a custom alligator in their school colors...they're in Florida...you could make a good guess which Gator :)).  Rag rugs is a great idea...I saw a technique using torn up Tshirts & a Q hook I always wanted to try.  If it's any interest to you, give stuffed animals (amigurumi) a shot.  I love making them & getting really creative with shapes & colors.
