Provenance

If you sell Vintage items, the word provenance should be in your professional vocabulary. Unfortunately, I’ve discovered that this isn’t always the case. So what is provenance, anyway?

According to Merriam-Webster, provenance is “the history of ownership of a valued object or work of art or literature.” In other words, provenance is the ‘proof’ that an item is of a particular origin and/or age. Vintage items can be sold on Zibbet. In order to be sold as Vintage, an item must be at least twenty years old. It’s important that sellers of Vintage items be able to verify the age of the items they offer for sale on Zibbet. If you sell Vintage items, be prepared to provide provenance when requested, either to a potential buyer or to Zibbet Support.

When an item that is listed as Vintage is reported, we investigate online as thoroughly as possible to find age verification for the questioned item. If we find provenance for the reported item, the seller will never know that the item was reported–we simply close the ticket. However, if we can’t find evidence online that either disputes or confirms the age of the item, we contact the seller asking for provenance. When we aren’t convinced that an item is at least twenty years old, we’ll request that the item be removed.

If you find an item listed as Vintage that you question, please try to provide supporting evidence with your report. To sellers of Vintage items, we thank you for your cooperation and professional response to requests for provenance for your items.

Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!
