As we enter the last month of 2013, it’s not too early to start gathering the paperwork you need for closing out your books as you get ready for income tax time and prepare your business for the new year. Here are a couple of reminders to help get you started:
* File that pile of papers that are sitting on your desk so that everything is organized and easy to find when you need it.
* If you’re behind on reconciling your business checking account, make a plan to complete that task before this month closes for your account.
* Check your ledger and make sure that all of your income and expenses to date have been entered.
* Run some preliminary reports to help take some of the guesswork and surprise out of your end of year totals.
* As you study those reports, start setting goals and making plans for 2014 based on what the numbers are telling you.
* Sort and organize your inventory. After a busy craft show season, it’s easy for things to get out of place.
* Do the same with your creative work space, preparing it now for new creations next year.
* Take care of some housekeeping in your shop by rearranging your items, updating photos and perhaps adding a new banner.
It’s not too early to prepare for the next great success, so get started today! What are some of the tasks on your ‘to do’ list?
