Once an item listing is found by a shopper, one of the most important factors that will convert that shopper to a buyer is excellent photos of the item. I’ve talked about item photographs several times. You’ll find a collection of articles here in Zibbet’s blog about how to improve the quality of your photographs and why it’s so important. It’s also important to promote your items and using images is a very effective way to do that. Today, let’s look at the importance of including links and tags with item photos that you post around the web.
When I post an image of a listed item, my primary purpose is to promote that item and to increase it’s exposure on the web. Consequently, it’s important that I make it easy for someone who sees one of my photos to take a closer look at the item. I want them to be able to move from an image I’ve posted in the Community Hub or Facebook directly to the listing in my shop with a single click. If I frustrate a shopper by failing to link the image to the listing, it’s not likely that the shopper will become a buyer. Many sites such as Zibbet’s Community Hub and Facebook allow links to ecommerce sites to be associated with images. However, sites such as Flickr have restrictions and don’t allow those types of links. They do allow you to leave a link to your shop in your Flickr profile so be sure to do that.
It’s also important to take the time to add tags to images that you upload to your Community page, Flickr account and Facebook profile. Why? Because tags are used by the search engines on those sites to help people find the images that they’re looking for. Even though someone may be searching Flickr for an image that they can use to illustrate an article they’re writing, they may end up finding one of your items that they decide to purchase. But that can only happen if you’ve tagged the photo properly so that it can be found in a search.
Finally, web search engines index the pages of the sites where you may be leaving a photo or two. It’s up to you to provide as much information as you can with each of those images, including tags and URLs wherever possible. Afterall, you want those items to be found and purchased don’t you?
Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!
