The term “peacock” is often used to refer to both sexes of these birds. However, only the males are peacocks. The females are peahens, and together, they are called peafowl. Suitable males gather harems of several females, each of which will lay three to five eggs. Wild peafowl roost in forest trees and gather in groups called parties.
