Let’s Talk About Linking

Links to your shop, whether to your shop’s front page or to individual item pages, are valuable promotional tools. Just as social media sites allow you to form networks with friends and associates, links help build a network of connections that lead back to your shop. Well placed links are valuable in a variety of ways. Here are just a few…

Links can be good for your shop’s SEO. Incoming links, referred to as external links, from sites that are trustworthy, popular and share relevant content, can be very beneficial. Caution: Be careful with link exchanges. The quality, not necessarily quantity, of external links should be your concern.

Links make it easy for potential buyers to navigate to your shop. If, for example, you post a photo of a new item on Zibbet’s Community Hub but don’t include a link to that item’s page in your shop, your chances of selling that item based on that post are drastically reduced. Many times I’ve seen photos of wonderful items on ZCH and have been frustrated and disappointed that I had to jump through too many hoops to get to the page on Zibbet where I could purchase the item. Think about it–if an experienced Zibbeter gets frustrated trying to find your item, how do you think a shopper with limited or no Zibbet familiarity will feel? How many potential sales have you lost by not including a link?

Links make it easy for others, both Zibbeters and non-Zibbeters, to promote your shop. Zibbet is known for being a sharing-caring community of artisans and crafters. We’ve learned that by helping others, we also help ourselves and that the success of Zibbet as a whole contributes to the success for each of us individually. Having an item from your shop pinned to someone’s Pinterest board or Tweeted or included in a blog post are great promotional gifts. Make it easy for others to promote you by providing links!

Share your linking strategies so that we can learn from each other.

Best wishes for much success on Zibbet!
