According to the results of a survey by Forrester Research Inc. and cited by InternetRetailer.com (2009), “Baby boomers are more likely to consume than create online social content.” The survey revealed that 66% of those surveyed aged 43-52 and 62% of those aged 53-63 reported reading blogs, listening to podcasts, reading online forums and customer ratings, and watching user-generated videos. Based on a survey of 1000 people, ShopperCentric.com reported that 60% of women use Facebook actively (compared to 52% of men). Alexa.com statistics indicate that the majority of individuals visiting Zibbet are aged 45-64 and female. Let’s take a quick look at what we can learn from these interesting statistics…
A case for targeted social networking promotion. These numbers indicate to me that we should be focusing our promotion efforts on reaching female shoppers aged 43-65 through social networking venues such as Facebook, You Tube and blogs. Females in this age group are already the most frequent visitors to Zibbet, making it extremely important for us to catch their attention so that they are converted from shoppers to buyers. This demographic is where we will find not only individuals shopping for themselves but they will also be gift shopping for their children and grandchildren. Thinking of gift shopping, be sure that your items are labeled with your Zibbet shop URL. Happy gift recipients (and their parents) are likely to become customers themselves, expanding the demographic for your shop and Zibbet overall.
